Becky knew early on that she wanted to travel and become a teacher. She went to Bible School and had an opportunity to go on a mission trip to Asia. She then moved to Lethbridge to get her teaching degree. There she met a fun-loving young man, named Brad, who was also passionate about missions. Brad and Becky have been married for 35 years and have 5 children—4 daughters and 1 son. Becky has always been passionate about homeschooling, family, and helping others.
After graduating from the University of Lethbridge, Becky taught in a Christian school for 5 years. Then, along with her husband, she spent the next 2 years in Thailand where she supervised homeschool programs for missionary kids, taught ESL to Bible school students, and helped in an orphanage.
Brad and Becky began homeschooling as soon as their children were ready. It was such a precious season of watching their kids thrive and grow, getting to pursue their interests, and developing a love for learning. They had a beautiful community of friends that they homeschooled with, and one year the Overns went on a mission trip to Mexico with 5 other families. They built a house for someone in need and took part in some ministry opportunities.
Wanting to give their children some real-life work experience, the family started a baking business called 4 Sisters’ Sweet Shoppe where they sold all kinds of treats at local farmers’ markets. Later they decided to flip a house so their son could gain some skills working in the trades.
It’s a new season now. Three of their daughters are married and they have two precious grandkids with another one on the way. The Overn family loves camping, kayaking, and hiking as well as playing music and board games together.
Becky had been a substitute teacher for three years before becoming a facilitator, praying for an opportunity where she could really make a difference in people’s lives. She sees now that God had been leading her back to what she is truly passionate about: homeschooling. She is excited to be able to use her experiences to encourage other families.
